HAHIRA — Mr. Callis Doe, 77, of Hahira, died on Dec. 18, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on June 10, 1925, in Hahira to the late Bud Sermon and Stella Doe-Miller. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hahira. He was preceded in death by his son, James Doe. Mr. Callis Doe leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Lela Doe; three children, Francine (Cavanaugh) Miller of Hahira, Raymond (Barbara Thomas) Doe and Kathy Dawson (Walter Hughley Jr.), both of Valdosta; nine grandchildren, Kerri Miller, Tamar Doe, Tenika Doe, Terrence Doe, Tobiaus Doe, Tomeica Edmond, Nicole Thomas, Travis Edmond and Tankia Doe; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Clemtime McQueen; one brother-in-law, Clarence Moore; three aunts, Bessie Doe, Rosie Doe and Flossie Doe; a special and devoted daughter-in-law, Earnestine Doe of Valdosta; and also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Mt Olive Baptist Church. The Rev. Norman Edwards, pastor and will officiate. HAHIRA — Ethel “Montine” Mitchell, 73, of Hahira passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 19, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Fitzgerald and had lived in Hahira for the past 30 years. She was Baptist by faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Mitchell. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Cat Decker of Hahira; two sons, Joseph J. Lott, Jr. and William M. Lott, both of Hahira; four grandchildren, Christopher Adam Gamez, Jessie Lott, Crystal and Rodney Rowan; and brother, William H. Sutton of Valdosta. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial following in Riverview Memorial Gardens. VALDOSTA — Della Ann Heath Vinton, 70, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. She was born on Jan. 25, 1932, in Jacksonville, Fla. to the late Hezekiah K. Health Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Kirkland Heath. Mrs. Vinton was a member of First United Methodist Church in Valdosta and a member of the Christian Singles Group. She also volunteered with the Arts Center, was a former LPN at South Georgia Medical Center and loved dogs. Survivors include her stepdaughter, Cathy Coppinger, Jonesboro, Ga.; loving nieces and nephews around the world including Sylvia Sanders, Ochlocknee, Ga., Ellen Scott, Waycross; loving cousins Ed and Virginia Newman and family of Valdosta. Services for Mrs. Vinton will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at the Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. Charles Adams officiating. George Whittle
PAVO — George Whittle, 93, of Pavo died on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at the Presbyterian Home of Quitman. He was born on Dec. 3, 1909, in Coffee County to the late D.W. Whittle, Sr. and Lennie Chaney Whittle. He was a retired farmer and lived in Brooks County over 45 years; served two years in the U.S. Army and was a member of Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Mr. Whittle is survived by his wife, Wilma Taft Whittle, of 55 years of Pavo; sons, Ronnie and Christine Whittle of Berlin, Charles Whittle of Lawrenceville; daughters, Janice Whittle of Valdosta, Sherrell and Frank Snipes of Thomasville; four grandchildren, William and James Snipes and Wendy Hart and Teri Moore; and two sisters, Lennie Roberson of Douglas and Alma Williams of Palatka, Fla. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Dwight Marshall officiating assisted by the Rev. Curtis Eason. James Edward Huston, age 73, passed away on Dec. 12, 2002, at his residence at 508 S. Fry St., Apt. 85. Funeral services will be held Dec. 21, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Mount Ararat Baptist Church. The Rev. Jaedon Alexander Robinson, infant of Hahira died on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002. Betty June Sapp, 48, of Quitman passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Archbold Hospital in Thomasville following a lengthy illness.
