County to vote on easement for Sabal Trail

VALDOSTA — The Lowndes County Commission will vote on whether to approve an agreement for a natural gas underground easement between Lowndes County and Sabal Trail Transmission at the board’s 5:30 p.m. meeting Tuesday.
“The County is just like any other property owner,” said County Clerk Paige Dukes. “(The Sabal Trail Transmission) knocked on (the County’s) door and said they needed an easement.”

The county owns a piece of property in Clyatteville through which the Sabal Trail’s underground natural gas pipeline will run, officials said.
The county is being paid $54,300 for the natural gas underground easement, according to Dukes.
During the Tuesday night meeting, the commission will vote to appoint a new member to the Hospital Authority of Valdosta and Lowndes County. Because of Dr. Lynn Friedman’s resignation, the recommended candidates for the position are Dr. Steven Brian Dawson, Dr. John W. Devine and Dr. John D. Roan, officials said.
The commission will vote to add a member to the board of the Lowndes County Division of Family and Children Services. Elsie Napier is the recommended candidate for the position, officials said.
The commission will vote to add a member to the board for the Valdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center and Tourism Authority Board. David Motley’s term ended Dec. 31, 2015 and Motley is up for re-appointment to another 3-year term, officials said.
The commission will also vote whether to approve an off-premises beer, wine and liquor license for Chandrakant V. Patel of Manikanth LLC/dba Mitt’s Liquor, because of a change in store ownership .
