Apartment fire leaves 15 homeless

VALDOSTA — An apartment building fire left 15 people homeless in Valdosta Tuesday.

Around 12:34 a.m., firefighters headed to a structure fire at 1716 South Patterson Street, Unit 16, a Valdosta Fire Department statement said.

The fire was brought under control quickly and no injuries were reported. No one was in the building at the time, the statement said; everyone inside had escaped before the fire department arrived.

The American Red Cross assisted 15 occupants.

The Valdosta Police Department and South Georgia Medical Center EMTs assisted. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
