Not even moving the series schedule up a day could help Valdosta State and host Lee beat the rain on Friday.
After moving the normal Saturday-Sunday series schedule for Gulf South Conference games ahead to a Friday start on Thursday, both the VSU-Lee baseball and softball series openers were rained out Friday night in Cleveland, Tenn.
Now, the top-ranked VSU softball team is scheduled to face Lee in a 2 p.m. doubleheader today as the Blazers try to close in on the top seed for the GSC tournament, and with it, the rights to host the tournament. VSU is 44-4 overall and 23-3 in the conference. Lee, meanwhile, is 28-16 overall and 16-10 in the conference.
The VSU-Lee baseball teams, meanwhile, are slated to play a doubleheader today, starting at 1 p.m. The Blazers, currently fifth in the conference standings with a 24-14 overall record and 15-10 in the league, are eyeing a berth in the six-team GSC tournament. Lee, which isn’t eligible during the reclassification process, is 24-15-1 overall and 13-12-1 in the Gulf South.
Both VSU teams close out the GSC regular season next weekend at home against Mississippi College.
