ALBANY -- Fourpeat complete.
The Lowndes High School girls track and field team continued its region dominance Tuesday night, winning its fourth-straight Region 1-AAAAA title.
Lowndes got past Coffee, 156-120, for team honors. Valdosta was third with 79 points, followed by Tift County (52), Colquitt County (43) and Lee County (12).
The title is the Vikettes' 13th in 15 years.
Lowndes also qualified eight athletes in 12 events for next week's Class AAAAA state meet, also at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany. Four had two second-place finishes to advance: Stephanie Sermons (100 and 200 meters), Candace McGriff (800 meters and high jump), Shelbra Willians (1,600 meters and 3,200 meters) and Krystal Thomas (shot put and discus).
The Vikettes had three region individual champions: Markeisha Close (triple jump), Shayla Graham (800 meters) and the 4x400-meter relay team.
Lisa Carter (high jump) and Tiffany Moore (400 meters) also advance to state with second-place finishes.
Other Lowndes athletes who scored points Tuesday included: Close (third, 100 meter hurdles); Graham (fourth, 1,600 meters); Chanise Hart (fifth, 100 and 200 meters) and the 4x400 meter relay team (third) and 4x100 meter relay team (fifth).
Valdosta High's Danielle Washington was a double-winner in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. Washington will go to state, along with Sherka Evans (second in 300 meter hurdles) and the 4x400-meter relay team.
Other Valdosta athletes who scored points Tuesday included: Jaquita Rideau (third, 400 and 800 meters); Kendra Walker (third, 200 meters and fourth, 100 meters); Veneiza Davis (fifth, 400 meters); Glenda House (fifth, 1,600 meters); Brittany Harrell (sixth, 100 and 300 meter hurdles), Shawntara Allen (sixth, 800 meters) and the 4x400 meter relay (fifth) and 4x100 meter relay (fourth and sixth) teams.
