The Lowndes girls’ tennis team is headed to the Final Four for the first time in school history.

The Vikettes beat Hillgrove 3-2 in the quarterfinal round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs Friday night at Lowndes High School.

Lowndes (20-3) started the day by sweeping the doubles matches; Lori Taylor and Laina Taylor won 6-1, 6-2, and Bailey Redish and Haley Tubbs won 6-2, 6-1.

Hillgrove fought back to win the first two singles matches, before Lowndes won the deciding No. 3 singles match, 6-2, 6-1. Emily Singletary won with an ace on the last point of the match to give Lowndes the victory.

Friday’s win continued what has been a magical season for Lowndes, which has seen the girls claim its first Region 1-AAAAA champion, a first-ever appearance in the Elite Eight and now the Final Four.

Lowndes beat Newton and North Cobb in the opening two rounds of the playoffs, and will face Roswell in the Final Four next weekend.
