Festivities and events are all around the area Saturday, with plenty to do for the entire family.
Milltown Murals Motorcade will be held in downtown Lakeland Saturday. Vintage vehicles will line Main Street from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., when they will pull out for a parade, ending at Roquemore Park. The Sweetwater Creek Bluegrass Band will play, with food vendors, fresh lemonade and BlueBell Ice Cream. The Withlacoochee Quilting Guild from Valdosta will have a large display of quilts in the FMB Bancshares building downtown.
Electronics Recyling Event in the parking lot of the City of Valdosta Customer Service Center at 102 N. Lee St. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cell phones, computer equipment and accessories, typewriters, cables, video machines, stereos, VCRs, CB radios, speakers, camcorders and cameras are examples of acceptable items. There will be a $10 charge per television to cover the costs of disassembly. Volunteers will man the event to remove the items from citizens’ vehicles.
The Quota International’s 18th annual Taste of Valdosta can be enjoyed at one of two times: lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $5 and food tokens are 50 cents each. The exhibitors this year include Atlanta Bread, Jessie’s Eats and Treats, Pammy Cakes, Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli/ Sister’s Pizza & Mussels, Jimmy John’s, Small Cakes, Shane’s Rib Shack and SurEste.
Celebrating the VSU Family, part of President William McKinney’s Inaugural Celebration Week, includes Zumba with the First Lady on the West Hall Front Lawn at 9:30 a.m. The event is open to the public. At noon that day, all VSU employees are being treated to a barbecue with entertainment by McKinney’s college band.
