A Savannah man has been convicted for his role in bank robberies last year in Chatham County.
The U.S. Attorney’s office told The Savannah Morning News that a jury on Thursday convicted 27-year-old Christopher Williams of being the driver during robberies on Nov. 12 at a SunTrust Bank near Savannah Mall and another on Dec. 11 at a Wachovia branch on Abercorn Street.
An accomplice, 36-year-old Mario Weston, has pleaded guilty to the same robberies.
Officials said Williams was also a suspect in at least four other bank robberies.
Williams could face up to 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000.
