VALDOSTA -- Security at the Municipal Court will be enhanced through the donation of an X-ray machine by the Valdosta Regional Airport Authority.

"The airport is getting new equipment, and they called Chief Frank Simons to offer us the machine," said Lt. Brian Childress, Valdosta Police Department's public information officer. "We will be using it at the entrance to the Municipal Court."

An officer checks people at the entrance to the court, which is located on the second floor of City Hall, also known as Council chambers. People walk through a metal detector and can be scanned with a handheld metal detector.

Childress said the use of the machine will allow the department to meet another standard set forth by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

"This X-ray will allow us to meet another requirement set forth by CALEA," he said. "We appreciate the donation of the machine. It will enhance our ability to provide courtroom security."
