About 200 more freshmen than last year are expected to enroll. This 10 percent growth gives VSU officials the challenges of scheduling more classes and finding more faculty.
Sixty international students add to the infusion of local and Atlanta area students for the new class. One official credited the university's increased admissions standards and academic reputation with the rise in enrollment.
A total of about 1,600 freshmen will require the addition of 50 more faculty members, officials said.
The new positions will have a ripple effect in the economy. Local spending increases, and tax revenues go up. VSU also is positioned for further growth and increased stature within the university system.
VSU employees should be proud to have created a prestigious institution of higher learning right here in South Georgia.
