VALDOSTA — A new business promises to hire 100 employees in coming weeks.
Waitr has officially launched in Valdosta and anticipates hiring a combination of 100 part-time and full-time employees in the next 90 days, said Whitney Savoie, director of market development.
Waitr is a food-delivery service that is in 235 cities around the United States.
The 100-employee marker is based on the previous launches in similar-sized cities, Savoie said.
Currently, Waitr has about 30 drivers and a team of four non-driving employees that help manage the day-to-day business of the company, she said.
“It’s great for a student who needs a part-time job or a mom who needs to get out of the house for a couple of hours,” she said about the part-time jobs. “Then we have full-time positions. We do offer benefits. They are a part of our company.
“We do a full background check. We interview the drivers face to face, and then we give them a uniform. We give them a hot bag. Our drivers are the real deal, and they work for our company.”
As a part of the launch party, Waitr was hosted by Smokin’ Pig B-B-Q, one of the 40 local restaurants available on the app. Residents who came by during the launch party were given a free shirt, tumbler and a free appetizer from Smokin’ Pig if they downloaded the Waitr app.
Savoie said a few of the other restaurants on the app include Big Nick's, Chick-fil-A, Osaka and Great American Cookies in the mall.
Orders can be placed at www.waitrapp.com or by downloading the Waitr app from the Apple App Store or from the Google Play Store.
