MONTICELLO -- Valwood had the answer for both of Piedmont's scores Friday night. And more.
After Piedmont closed Valwood's leads to 7-6 and 21-14, the Valiants answered with 10 points to win the non-region prep football game, 31-14.
Valwood improves to 2-1 with its second-straight win. The Valiants open their new on-campus football facility next Friday against Sherwood Christian.
Chad Gallahan caught two touchdown passes and picked off two passes for the Valiants. He also kicked a 35-yard field goal and had four extra-point kicks. He caught six passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns.
Valwood opened the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run by Brian Reveron four minutes into the game. Piedmont answered with a second-quarter touchdown, but had the extra-point kick blocked.
Valwood responded with a 10-play, 62-yard drive which ended with Reveron's 5-yard run. With just under a minute left before halftime, Gallahan caught an 8-yard pass from Josh Hobdy. His extra-point kick made it 21-6.
Piedmont closed the gap to 21-14, but Gallahan answered with the field goal late in the third quarter. He tacked on the last score with a 20-yard pass from Hobdy midway in the fourth quarter.
Hobdy completed 12-of-15 passes for 106 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Reveron ran for 74 yards on 22 carries, while Shane McDowell added 82 yards on 16 carries.
Reveron and Harley Langdale each caught three passes.
Austin Glennon led Valwood's defense with 13 tackles. Reveron added 11 stops, Shawn McDowell 10.
