Valdosta murder trial scheduled for Tuesday

Jean Claude Doricien

VALDOSTA — The murder trial for Jean Claude Doricien is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning.

A Lowndes County grand jury indicted Doricien, 31, on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of marijuana (less than an ounce), according to an indictment list.

The charges stem from the Oct. 24, 2017, shooting death of 39-year-old Tovara Flowers, according to Valdosta Police Department reports.

Numerous officers and detectives were dispatched in response to a shooting at the 600 block of East Jane Street. Officers made contact with Flowers, who had been shot multiple times, according to a police report.

Police and Lowndes County Sheriff's Office units provided first aid and attempted CPR until paramedics arrived. Flowers was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.

During the investigation, the Valdosta city camera system picked up a subject running from the area. Narcotics detectives located the person near the intersection of East Moore Street and North Forrest Street.

A jury was selected for the trial Monday. The trial is scheduled to begin 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, on the fifth floor of the County Administrative Building in Courtroom 5-C, where Southern Circuit Judge Brian McDaniel will be presiding.
