VALDOSTA — A wreck that occurred just off Interstate 75 at Exit 11 left one injured and delayed traffic for at least two hours Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3:30 p.m., Lowndes County Sheriff deputies and Lowndes County Fire Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene to find the right side of a white Honda Civic severely damaged and a green Chevrolet truck overturned with glass shattered across the road.

When EMS personnel arrived, an injured passenger of the Civic was transported to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the Civic accompanied the victim for support.

The case was turned over to Georgia State Patrol troopers as they arrived on scene.

According to Trooper Israel Hendley, the Civic, traveling south on Madison Highway, struck the truck when it failed to yield after coming off of the interstate, causing the truck to overturn.

Firefighters sprayed the truck with a fire retardant as a safety precaution.

As troopers worked the case and the vehicles were towed away, deputies directed traffic.

The driver of the truck was issued a citation for failure to yield, troopers said.

According to Hendley, the driver of the truck also sustained visible injuries to his arm, but did not receive medical treatment.
