VALDOSTA -- Autopsy results helped Valdosta police close the book on a murder-suicide case in which three people died Friday, Jan. 7.
Marvin Jones of Valdosta died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Before taking his own life, Jones shot and killed his wife, Tammie Miley, 40, and her daughter, Tosha Miley, 18.
"We feel the case is now closed," said Capt. Brian Childress, public information officer with the Valdosta Police Department. "All evidence gathered by us and by the (Lowndes County) Sheriff's Office confirm that Marvin Jones was indeed the shooter."
Police responded to a 911 call at 2766 Tyndall Drive Friday morning.
Officers found the bodies of Tammie Miley and Tosha Miley in separate bedrooms within the residence.
A short time later, sheriff's office deputies found Jones' body in a vehicle on Mable Walker Road.
Shell casings from a .380-caliber pistol found at both scenes matched.
Childress said no calls had been paid by Valdosta police to the Tyndall Drive residence in the past year.
Investigators learned, however, there had been trouble brewing between Jones and Tammie Miley.
"We were advised by family members that they were in the process of getting a divorce," Childress said. "There had been some personal problems between the two."
