VALDOSTA — Valdosta Stadium Cinemas is preparing for a large-screen premium format theatre.
The theatre has erected fences and barriers around two of its theaters in recent weeks.
Inside of the barriers at Valdosta Stadium Cinemas, 1680 Baytree Road, two theaters are being combined into one viewing area, said Jim Cody, general manager of Valdosta Stadium Cinemas.
The company recently began internal demolition, and will eventually add a more than 70-foot-by-roughly-40-foot screen, Cody said.
Once completed, the new screening area will be considered a Georgia Theatre Xtreme theater, Cody said. A GTX is a premium large-screen format.
Cody did not share details on the sound and seating saying more details will be available as plans are finalized. More information about seating and sound should be available in the coming months.
He said the change in the theater is to “give customers something more than what we have now.”
“It’s going to be a really nice presentation,” Cody said. “It’s going to be bigger and better. The sound will be upgraded, but I’m exactly sure what we are doing yet.”
Along with internal demolition and upgrades, Cody said the theater’s parent company, Georgia Theatre Company, plans to expand the northwest theater out by about 25-30 feet to accommodate for the larger screen.
Cody said there is not a set date for construction to be completed, but he is hopeful that construction will be completed by the end of the year.
