VALDOSTA -- Hospice of South Georgia will sponsor and host free bereavement support groups for children and teens who have experienced the death of a loved one.
Connie Register, bereavement coordinator, said the goal of the support groups is to provide grieving children and teens with an opportunity to meet in an accepting and safe environment and share their feelings with others who are experiencing the same.
Hospice of South Georgia facilitates the groups with well-trained counselors and provides bereavement literature to help with guidance and encouragement during the grief process.
"This is our first attempt at having support groups for children and teens," Register said. "Once a year we sponsor a bereavement camp for children, and we realized the need for support groups as a result."
The first support group meeting for children ages 8 to 12 will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The group will meet regularly on Tuesday mornings through July 1. The first teen support group meeting for those ages 13 to 17 group meeting will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1. This group will meet regularly on Tuesday evenings through July 22.
All meetings will be held at Hospice of South Georgia, which is located at 205 Woodrow Wilson Drive.
