DIXIE -- The Valwood Valiants got three rushing touchdowns in the second, third and fourth quarters as the they stayed in contention for playoff spot with a 20-6 win over Westbrook (4-4) Friday in Dixie.
The Cougars go to Westwood next week while Valwood hosts Crisp.
Valwood (2-4) took a 7-0 lead in the first on a 26-yard run by Brian Reveron, who finished with 40 yards on 6 carries. Ryan Keller's kick made it 7-0 with 3:37 left.
Valwood padded the lead with 7:18 to go in the third with a 10-yard run by Matt king. King rushed 8 times for 36 yards. The extra point was blocked, and Valwood led 13-0.
The Valiants final score came on a 4-yard run by Jon Miller for a 20-0 Valwood lead as 2:01 remained in the fourth. Miller rushed for 16 yards on 4 attempts.
Valwood quarterback Josh Hobdy was 9-of-16 for 111 yards with 1 interception.
Justin Hobdy also rushed for 20 yards to pace the Valiants.
The lone score for Westbrook came with 42 seconds to go in the game on a 4-yard pass to Michael Guess from Blaine McDaniel. McDaniel was 5-of-18 for 83 yards and 2 interceptions while P.J. Pollock led the Cougars on the ground with 20 yards on 8 attempts.
Pelham 48, Lanier Co. 21
LAKELAND -- Despite piling up 370 offensive yards, it the Lanier County Bulldogs fell to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in Region 1-A in a 48-21 at home to Pelham Friday.
Lanier is off next week before hsoting Atkinson.
The loss is the Bulldogs' first at home this season.
Alex Lacey scored all three touchdown for Lanier on runs of 11, 9 and 1 yards.
Cairo, 23, Brooks County 8
CAIRO -- The Cairo Syrupmakers jumped out to a 16-0 halftime advantage and never gave up a score until the contest was well in hand, downing Brooks County 23-8 Friday.
The Trojans avoided the shutout with a 19-yard touchdown run by Malcom Jackson with 6:07 to play. Ervin Evans added the 2-point conversion for Brooks County (0-6).
Evans finished the night with 43 rushing yards and 59 passing yards. Jackson finished with 20 yards on two carries, while Micah Edwards added 11 yards on four carries and also caught a 46-yard pass.
The Trojans travel to Berrien next week for a Region 2-AA showdown. Class AAAA Cairo (3-3) will play at Crisp County.
