As the summer heat bakes temperaments to a crisp, authorities reported two separate stabbing incidences over the weekend and one of the altercations involved gunfire.
Heated words between a couple resulted in a gunshot wound and two stabbings at a residence in the 1900 block of Bancroft Road around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, according to witness reports.
Valdosta Police officers were met in the yard of the residence by a man who’d been stabbed in the arm when the officers responded to reports of a shooting, reports stated.
Another man, who’d also been stabbed in the arm, emerged from the residence after the first man and officers discovered a woman inside the house who’d been grazed by a bullet on the side of her head, according to reports. Authorities reported that the woman was conscious and alert when they arrived.
The woman allegedly stabbed the first man at one point in the dispute, according to reports, causing the man’s handgun to discharge and injure the woman. The other man was stabbed when he attempted to dissolve the tension between the quarreling couple, reports stated.
The couple had been engaged at some point, according to a witness who also alleges that the first stabbing was self-defense because the woman was pistol-whipped right before she stabbed the first man.
All parties were transported to South Georgia Medical Center’s emergency room unit and are all expected to make full recoveries, reports stated.
The dueling couple was transported to the Lowndes County jail after treatment and the third party was sent home, reports stated.
The couple’s initial argument may have stemmed from an argument about the distribution of funds for the next day’s breakfast, according to witness’ accounts.
Telicia Horne, 24, and Leroy Brown, 45, were both arrested and charged with aggravated assault after they were released from the care of SGMC, according to reports.
Lt. Aaron Kirk of the Valdosta Police Department said the incident was still under investigation and authorities haven’t ruled out additional charges.
In another similar but unrelated incident, a sergeant from the Valdosta Police Department said he stumbled upon a woman and blood-soaked man arguing in the middle of South Patterson Street around 2:30 a.m. Monday Morning.
The pair of siblings said the sister was attempting to aid the brother who had suffered a severe laceration to the side of his head, according to reports.
Upon further investigation, officers found blood in the center of South Lee Street and have determined that the incident originated at that location, reports stated.
The victim is said to be in stable condition and recovering. The siblings provided authorities with no details on the events that led to the incident which is still under investigation, according to authorities from the Valdosta Police Department.
