VALDOSTA — Valdosta City Council and mayoral candidates will speak next week at the sixth political forum of the 2015 election season.
The forum, set for 6 p.m. Oct. 13, Mathis City Auditorium, is presented by the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity at Valdosta State University, the 100 Black Men of Valdosta and the Valdosta-Lowndes Metro Section of the National Council of Negro Women.
There will be no debating between candidates at the Oct. 13 forum, said City Councilman Alvin Payton, who is working to organize the event.
"We had that discussion a lot," Payton said.
Payton said candidates will have a total of seven minutes to speak to the audience, which will be able to ask questions.
"Each candidate will be given three minutes to describe themselves, their platform and why they're seeking their position," Payton said. "We will then allow two minutes for each candidate to answer a minimum of two questions from the floor. Some questions can be answered quicker than others. After those two minutes, each candidate will be given two minutes to wrap up their position."
The forum will only involve candidates running for Valdosta City Council and the position of Valdosta mayor.
The forum is the sixth political forum held in the 2015 election, following events organized by the Lowndes County Democratic and Republican parties, Serenity Baptist Church, the Valdosta branch of the American Association of University Women and the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce.
