LAKELAND — Rep. Jay Shaw, D-Lakeland, is seeking re-election to the Georgia House of Representatives District 176 post. He represents Berrien, Clinch, Lanier and Lowndes counties.
Shaw said he plans to qualify as a candidate for re-election when the filing period begins April 24.
In a press release, Shaw said it has been a great honor to represent his constituents, and he will continue to ensure the concerns of the community are heard at the state level.
“There is much work still to be done,” he said. “I pledge to continue working to support our public schools, expand access to quality affordable health care for all Georgians and help create more employment opportunities in South Georgia.”
Shaw is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and House Rules Committee. He also serves on the House Banks and Banking Committee. He is a lifelong resident of the 176th District and served as mayor of Lakeland from 1980 to 1990.
“I look forward to meeting with and talking with the voters of the 176th District during the course of the 2006 campaign,” Shaw said. “This is a very important election year in Georgia, and I pledge to listen to the views of my constituents on the issues and respond accordingly.”
Qualifying runs from April 24-28. The General Primary is July 18, and the General Election is Nov. 7.
