Pat Gallagher / The Valdosta Daily Times Dean College of the Arts Doctor john Gaston welcomes and thanks guest for the suport of the arts programs at the Centennial Arts Brunch Saturday at the James Rainwater Confrence Center.

VALDOSTA — The Valdosta State University College of the Arts held a brunch at the James H. Rainwater Conference Center to pay special tribute to members of the community who continue to support the arts as part of the university’s Centennial Celebration.

Dr. Louis Levy, vice president for academic affairs, welcomed the guests and introduced Dr. John Gaston, dean of the College of the Arts. As Gaston noted, the program was informal and the brunch was merely a way to show appreciation for the continued support of so many in the community.

“Thank you for the support you have given us and thank you for always being there when we needed you,” Gaston said.

The Valdosta Daily Times was the event’s main honoree. Gaston stated that the only way to maintain a successful arts program is to have a way for citizens to hear about what is going on and the College of the Arts specifically recognized the support of The Times in making this happen.

Members of the eight boards within the College of the Arts also play an essential part in the success of these programs at VSU. These board members were also specially recognized during the brunch for their dedicated service to the arts.

The event was sponsored by the VSU Foundation Board of Trustees and the VSU Centennial Steering Committee.
