VALDOSTA — Police have identified a young woman who was shot to death in Valdosta Saturday.

Desiyunna Hill, 18, died in a shooting at a party, according to a statement from the Valdosta Police Department.

The party was being held at an event center in the 1700 block of North Lee Street when an argument broke out about 1 a.m., according to Lt. Scottie Johns of the Valdosta Police Department. Several hundred teenagers were at the party; as the event wound down, gunshots were fired and the young woman was hit, according to the statement.

Hill was taken to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment, but died later Saturday, the lieutenant said

Her body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiners’ Office Monday morning, where an autopsy was performed.

“There were over 200 teenagers gathered at the location when this incident took place. This is a senseless act of violence which led to a tragic loss of a young lady’s life. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim, who lost her life way too early,” Police Chief Leslie Manahan said in a statement.
