Barbara Oneida Taylor Ekstrom

BLUE RIDGE -- Barbara Oneida Taylor Ekstrom, 80, of Blue Ridge, died on Feb. 7, 2002, at Blue Ridge Health Care. She was born on Jan. 25, 1922, in Cook County to the late Marcus Alexander and Winnie Aldridge Scoggins. She lived in Cook County most of her life. She was a homemaker and member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Mrs. Ekstrom was preceded in death by two spouses, Culburth Taylor and Andy Ekstrom. She is survived by four daughters, Bonita McKinsey of Bartow, Fla., Linda Moore, Adel, Charlotte Folsom, Ashville, N.C., Debbie Waites, Norman Park; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dona Brown of Sanford, N.C. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home with the Rev. Dillard Ensley officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn City Cemetery. Phillip Wayne Hamby

LAKE PARK -- Phillip Wayne Hamby, 53, died Friday at his residence after a short illness. He was born in Valdosta to the late T.W. Sr. and Elizabeth Howerton Hamby. He was of the Methodist faith and a lifelong resident of Lowndes County. He was a professional truck driver for 34 years and seven months, and had been employed by Roadway for 23 years and seven months. His professional achievements include: Two Million Safe Driving Miles; Member, Safety Team; Florida Trucking Association (FTA) Road Team; District 6 Road Team; Smith System Instructor; Haz Mat Instructor; FTA Driver of the Month (4/96); Roadway Employee of the Month (4/96); 1-10-100 Award; Atta-Boy Truck Pin; One Million Mile Safe Driving Award, Presidential Safe Driving Award. His hobbies included fishing, RC flying and woodworking. He participated in Neighborhood Watch and was active in Roadway's Christmas barbecue for needy children. Survivors include his wife Brenda "Fred" Harnage Hamby of Lake Park; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Shawn Curece of Quitman; daughter, Kimberly Lewallen of Lake Park; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Sandy Hamby of Clyattville; seven grandchildren; brother, Henry A. Hamby of Will Park, Fla.; sister, Mary Callaghan of Valdosta; sister, Barbara Kilcrease of Valdosta. He was predeceased by his brother, T. W. Hamby Jr., sister, Jewell Wells, and sister, Louise Allbritton. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at McLane Lakewood Chapel. The Rev. L. C. Harnage will officiate. Ellen Smith Davis

LOWNDES COUNTY -- Ellen Smith Davis, 69, died on Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in Valdosta after a lengthy illness. A resident of Lowndes County for 40 years, she was born in Walla Walla, Wash., on Oct. 3, 1932, the daughter of the late Albert Chauncey and Jean Bertha Huskey Coulson. Mrs. Davis was a very faithful member of Clyattville United Methodist Church. She worked as a registered nurse at South Georgia Medical Center and Smith Hospital in Hahira, was a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Lions Club and the Garden Center in Hahira. Survivors are her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Danny Patterson of Hahira, Faye and Jerry Hembree of Leesburg, Cindy Douglas of Sylvester, Barbara McGuire of Ocean Springs, Miss., Kathy Galloway of Valdosta; a son, Danny Smith of Billings, Mont.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert D. Smith, her second husband, Thomas Lamar Davis, and a brother, Donny Coulson. Services for Mrs. Davis will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clyattville United Methodist Church.
