Alfred Russell Fry
Alfred Russell Fry, 89, of Jasper, Fla., passed away Saturday, April 27, 2002, at Trinity Community Hospital in Jasper. The Chandler, Okla., native was a retired carpenter and member of Hebron Primitive Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Lorene Fry of Jasper; two sons, Russell and Albert Fry, both of Jasper; five daughters, Shirley Hudson of Cleveland, Bernice Law of White Springs, Fla., Jeraldeen Hollingsworth of Augusta, Ark., Alice Smith and Sally Deas, both of Jasper; a stepson, Carroll Phillips of Deland, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Betty Jean Ethridge of Valdosta and June Phillips of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sisters, Edna Gates of Lake City, Fla., and Jenny Fry of Yuma Valley, Calif.; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, in Jasper. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Jasper. Claude Ambrose Kent
Claude Ambrose Kent, 85, of Valdosta, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, April 28, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born on March 6, 1917, in Lake City, Fla., to the late Jim and Maggie Kent and was a longtime resident of Valdosta. He retired from Owens-Illinois after 33 years of service and was a charter member of the Grace Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Catherine Barrs Kent of Valdosta; one son, Bill Kent of Valdosta; two daughters and one son-in-law, Becky and Taylor Childre of Milledgeville and Barbara Wood of Valdosta; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Melissa and Otis Tindall, Marc and Angie Wood, Micah Wood, Kevin and Cynthia Weldon, Angie and Chris Forte, Tabitha and Larry Miley, Kristi and Chad Folsom and Kellen Kent; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita Strickland of Tallahassee, Fla., and Joyce Watkins of Lake City, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews; special brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, including Julia and Burney Harmon of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Lou Kent, and a sister, Estelle Markham of Lake City, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral with the Rev. Lewis Metts officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
