VALDOSTA -- A man wanted in Texas on charges of murder was arrested in Ray City after police said he kidnapped a Valdosta woman Sunday afternoon.

Julio Rivera, 33, Ray City, is charged with kidnapping and simple battery, said Lt. Brian Childress, public information officer for the Valdosta Police Department. "We also discovered he is also wanted in Waco, Texas for a murder charge."

"We responded to a report of kidnapping in the 1700 block of South Patterson Street where a witness reported that Rivera forced a 28-year-old woman into a beige color, four-door sedan and may be headed to Ray City," Childress said. "Our detectives, with the assistance of the Ray City Police Department and the Berrien County Sheriff's Office, located Rivera and the victim in Berrien County."

Childress said that although the victim was not seriously injured, the police have evidence she was assaulted. Rivera was transported back to Valdosta and is in the Lowndes County Jail.

"We would like to thank the Ray City PD and the Berrien County Sheriff's Office for their assistance," Childress said. "Because of the joint effort among law enforcement agencies, the victim was not seriously injured and the offender is now in jail."
