VALDOSTA — Future development and character areas will be the focus of the next public meeting for the Greater Lowndes 2030 Comprehensive Plan on Tuesday.

Planners with the South Georgia Regional Development Authority have conducted a series of meetings concerning the community’s goals for future land use.

Anne-Marie Wolff, a comprehensive planner with the RDC, said discussions Tuesday night will center on 20 designated character areas within the community. She described character areas as aspects of Valdosta-Lowndes County, such as the downtown area, that make the community unique.

“What is the character of our area we want to protect?” Wolff said.

Another example of a character area would be around Interstate 75. If no plan is in place to manage growth, this main gateway into Interstate 75 becomes unsightly and cluttered. “Are we putting our best foot forward there?” Wolff said.

Now is the time to get involved with the comprehensive plan, Wolff.

Tuesday’s meeting is at 5:30 p.m. at the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners Building, 325 W. Savannah Ave.

Those who can’t attend the meeting may call the RDC at 333-5277; visit the Web site at www.sgrdc.com; or email comments to greaterlowndes2030@sgrdc.com.
