VALDOSTA — A man who sustained head and chest trauma after being struck by a car Tuesday afternoon remains in critical condition.

The man, whose name was unavailable at presstime, was taken to South Georgia Medical Center.

The man was riding a bike near the overpass on Patterson Street about 4:56 p.m. when the collision occurred.

A woman driving a Dodge Intrepid north on Patterson approached the overpass. Witnesses told police that a man on a bike crossed into the Intrepid’s path, said Capt. Brian Childress, Valdosta Police Department spokesman.

“She tried to swerve, but she still hit him,” Childress said.

The man on the bike rolled up on her hood, struck the windshield and landed on the street.

“At this time, we don’t anticipate charges against the driver,” Childress said.
