VALDOSTA — Authorities arrested a man Monday on multiple sex crime charges, according to a police statement released Friday.
At 10 a.m. Monday, July 1, police became aware a minor had been a victim of sexual assault for more than a year, according to a Valdosta Police Department statement.
After an investigation, detectives obtained warrants against Gilberto Valencia, 44, of Valdosta on charges that include rape-felony and aggravated child molestation, the statement said.
He was arrested without incident Tuesday and taken to the Lowndes County Jail, police said.
The victim also reported incidents occurred in a jurisdiction outside of Valdosta, the statement said.
“I am proud of our detectives that worked this case to ensure that this offender will be held accountable for his actions. Our thoughts go out to the victim and the victim’s family. They have a long healing process ahead of them,” Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan said.
