VALDOSTA -- A 69-year-old man whom the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office said attempted to hire a hit man faces two felony charges.

Ollie Lincoln Boyd, 69, 2373 Greenlee Street, is charged with conspiracy to commit a crime (murder) and criminal solicitation to commit murder, said Sheriff Ashley Paulk.

Paulk said a member of the Narcotics Investigative Division was approached Thursday by a man who said Boyd attempted to hire him to kill two people. The officers then contacted Detective Wanda Temples.

Investigators said the man, who was not identified, told them Boyd gave him money, and they drove by the home of the woman and her boyfriend that Boyd wanted killed. The man said he left Boyd as soon as possible and contacted authorities.

"The Narcotics Unit acted immediately when they received the information," Paulk said. "Through their actions and that of the person who gave us the information, we may have saved the lives of two people in Lowndes County."

Boyd remains in the Lowndes County Jail.
