• Tree recycling event planned

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Recreation, Parks, and Community Affairs and Keep Lowndes/Valdosta Beautiful will host the 15th annual “Bring One for the Chipper 2006” Christmas Tree recycling event on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

This event educates the public on recycling and the importance of environmental conservation.

In addition, the program assists local governments in complying with Georgia’s yard trimmings ban implemented in September 1996.

The ban prohibits the disposal of yard trimmings in municipal solid waste landfills.

Area residents can drop Christmas trees off through Jan. 6 at the following locations: The Home Depot, Mathis Auditorium, Wal-Mart Super Center on Perimeter Road, City of Hahira at the corner of Lawson and North Lowndes Streets and Lowndes Recycling Centers at 4758 Loch Laurel Road, 4040 Pine Grove Road and 345 Gil Harbin Blvd.

Each person who delivers a tree to any of the sites between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7 will receive a free dogwood tree seedling while supplies last. For information, call Aaron Strickland at 229-671-2499.
