The Lowndes Education Improvement Foundation is a private, third-party, non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to promoting excellence in education by developing and sustaining financial support from the private sector to benefit Lowndes County schools, students, and teachers.

It is the goal of LEIF to complement the public school system by utilizing fully tax-deductible funds to provide improved educational opportunities for school children. Some of the tools with which LEIF hopes to advance the county education system are:

* Creating programs designed to provide teachers with resources to explore new teaching techniques and develop creative classroom activities to enhance student learning. The foundation granted $8,789.71 in 2006 and $8,472.45 in 2007 to teachers throughout the school system to enhance classroom learning.

* Motivating, fostering, and promoting student achievement by recognizing high performing students at a banquet in the spring of each school year. A graduating senior is also recognized and awarded at $500 college scholarship.

* Increasing parents’ involvement in their children’s education by promoting volunteerism, parent-teacher partnerships and Annual Parent University.

For those unable to attend, banquet sponsorships are available for $250. Supporting the LEIF banquet is an opportunity for any citizen to be an integral partner in the effort to help make learning fun, exciting, and rewarding for the children of Lowndes County. The investment made in children today will pay dividends for Lowndes County for many years to come.
