VALDOSTA -- Sisters Mimi and Maryann Smith are always looking for a good deal.
When they read about The Valdosta Daily Times yard sale in the paper Friday, they knew they had to come.
"I am such a sucker for yard sales," Mimi said. "This one was so huge, I called my sister and dragged her out here."
The yard sale, at the Lowndes County Civic Center, was host to about 100 vendors throughout South Georgia and North Florida, according to Melody Register, classified advertising manager for The Times.
"We had an excellent turnout," she said. "Most of the vendors sold either all of their merchandise or 75 percent of it. We event have people trying to reserve booths for next year."
The merchandise, new and old, consisted of everything from furniture to jewelry.
"This is our first time coming to this event and we did really well," Angie McFeeters, vendor, said.
Register said about 700 people came to the semi-annual event.
"We had a constant stream of people coming in," she said. "When we opened at 7 a.m., there was a line outside waiting."
Customers also had a chance to catch breakfast or lunch at the event.
All of the proceeds from the vendor's space reservations and concessions benefited Newspapers in Education.
