A new board of directors and officers for the 2002-03 year were installed at the Home Builders Association of South Georgia's 37th Annual Banquet on Sept. 25 at the Valdosta Country Club.

Dixon Taylor, Rusty Thornton, Scott Orenstein, Carl Shapiro, Bill Gandy and Todd Wilson were sworn in as members of the board. Bruce Bailey, associate vice president, Steve Allman, Israel Gomez, Danny Braddy, Bill Slaughter, Vicky Biles and Pat Crane were sworn in as associate directors. The 2003 slate of officers are Scott Lyons, president; Prentice Taylor, vice president; Steve Quinn, treasurer; and Stan Lankford, secretary.

T.C. Brown, immediate past president, was presented with a plaque in recognition of all his hard work and dedication during his year.

Jill Pope, executive officer for the association, was presented with a gift of appreciation from her past president and board of directors for her commitment and dedication.

There were several exceptional members who were recognized at this year's event. Bill Gandy, Gandy Construction Co., was named Builder Member of the Year, and Vicky Biles, Georgia Power Co., was named Associate Member of the Year.

Chairmen of the past year's various committees were honored as well: Carl Shapiro, Emily Hagan, T.C. Brown, Raymond Blanton and Jack Henry.

The Home Builders Association presented a plaque of appreciation to Marshall Connor on behalf of Georgia Power Co. for the company's years of support.

State Rep. Tim Golden served as keynote speaker at the banquet. Golden informed the membership on legislative issues from both a local and state level.

The Home Builders Association is affiliated with the State and National Home Builders Association, with national membership numbers of 210,000. The association has more than 300 members locally supporting the building industry in the South Georgia region.
