VALDOSTA — A Lowndes County grand jury found insufficient evidence to indict a Valdosta woman on an assault charge stemming from a domestic dispute earlier this year.
Last week, a Lowndes County Superior Court grand jury determined there was insufficient evidence to support an aggravated assault charge against Tiffany Newsome, 20.
Some of the witnesses who appeared before the grand jury said Newsome acted in self defense, said Assistant Southern District Attorney Brad Shealy.
On Jan. 18, Newsome was charged with aggravated assault in the 1800 block of Claudia Circle after an argument with an ex-boyfriend turned physical, according to the Valdosta Police Department.
Newsome reportedly told police the man “jumped on her,” and witnesses said she responded by hitting him in the face with a brick and cutting him with a knife, reports stated.
