America's Second Harvest of South Georgia hosted two volunteer appreciation dinners on May 1 and 2 in honor of the organization's volunteers.

"The food bank staff is always amazed at the way volunteers selflessly give of their time and energy," said Jamie Gaston, Volunteer Services director. "We are glad that we could pay tribute to those wonderful qualities."

Gaston said volunteers are instrumental to America's Second Harvest. Each week volunteers sort and process thousands of pounds of food and non-food items. They are responsible for helping feed and mentor children at the organization's after-school Kids Cafe. They also tow the lines at special events like Make a Difference Day and yearly food drives.

"Working beside these individuals has taught us a great deal about the true spirit of volunteers," she added. "We are so proud that we have encountered such a fine outstanding bunch of people. They are all different and unique, yet they share something in common. They are giving, kindhearted, wonderful, funny, sincere, and caring Americans. We are so proud that these people are affiliated with America's Second Harvest of South Georgia."
