On-site services provided by the Lowndes County division of the Georgia Department of Labor now reach out to Lake Park.
Starting this month, Jamon Williams from the Lowndes County DOL will be at the Lake Park Area Chamber of Commerce from 1-4 p.m. every third Wednesday. This will provide many valuable services for individuals and employers at no cost.
Services for individuals will include job search assistance and employee recruitment. Williams will also show those interested how to access and use the DOL Web site, which offers valuable information about unemployment, education, training, and employment opportunities.
Employers can take advantages of employee recruitment as well. Information is available to aid employers in interviewing and choosing future employees.
Although Williams will only be on-site in Lake Park once monthly, computers will be set up for individuals and employers, primarily to provide DOL Web site access at any time. If the need is there, DOL visits to the Lake Park Chamber will become more frequent.
The Valdosta office has been successful, and William hopes coming to Lake Park will only create more success by establishing a good relationship between employers and potential employees. "I hope we will be able to help individuals and businesses (in Lake Park) connect," Williams said.
This type of service is new to the Lake Park area therefore Rhonda Barnes, director of the Lake Park Chamber of Commerce, is excited about the new opportunities this office will provide for employers and future employees alike.
Barnes is proud of the recent improvements made to the Chamber of Commerce and to Lake Park in general and is equally excited about future opportunities the Chamber plans to provide. These include an Agricultural Resource Library and the presence of Southeast Agriculture in the Chamber office, both expected to be available within two months.
The Department of Labor provides a valuable way to connect employees and employers in any county and according to both members of the Valdosta office and the Lake Park Area Chamber, the new office will definitely benefit the greater Lake Park area.
