VALDOSTA -- The Valdosta City Council could approve clarifications to the Clean Indoor Air Ordinance, the ordinance prohibiting smoking in most public places and government buildings, at its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. tonight.

On Feb. 5, Council decided the ordinance needed to be clarified, especially concerning the exception of the adult entertainment businesses and the 25-foot rule.

Clarifications would omit adult entertainment from the exceptions, reword the "reasonable distance from an entrance" in section 6 of the ordinance to say the "primary entrance" instead of "an entrance," and revise the outdoor area section because it does not include open, patio areas and include hotel rooms as part of the exceptions.

If Council approves the clarifications tonight, the ordinance could go into effect March 1.

Council has a short agenda this week, including a section for citizens to be heard.

Other items Council will discuss are:

A consideration of a request to approve bids for assorted traffic control equipment for the Engineering Department.

A consideration of a request to approve an amendment to the Professional Services Agreement with Pope/Partners Architects, Inc. for renovations of Fire Station 1 building, to include the Municipal Court use.

A consideration of appointments to the Valdosta Historic Preservation Commission.

Council meets in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
