HOMERVILLE — A murder trial in Clinch County ended June 1 when both defendants were found guilty of felony murder for the July 2004 shooting death of Travis Tyson in Homerville, according to Alapaha Judicial Circuit District Attorney Cathy Helms.

The trial against Jordan A. Crear Jr. and Erving J. Bighams of Homerville began May 29 with jury selection and continued through three days of testimony. In addition to felony murder, Crear and Bighams were also convicted of two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to Helms.

Charges arose out of a drive-by shooting that occurred July 3, 2004, in Homerville.

Bighams, the shooter, was sentenced by visiting Senior Judge Penn McWhorter of Winder to life in prison plus 25 years. Crear, the driver, was sentenced to life in prison plus five years, according to Helms.

Tim Eidson, Cordele Judicial Circuit public defender, represented Crear. John Thigpen of Blackshear defended Bighams.
