REMERTON -- Seeing a need for enhanced technology, members of the Remerton City Council recently approved the purchase of new computers and software.
Brian McDougal, city manager, was pleased the decision was a unanimous one.
"We will be able to serve the public better with new equipment," he said. "The personal computers we have right now are giving us problems. We don't want to start losing information. I am concerned that we will if we don't upgrade the technology now."
Council members approved the purchase of four Dell OptiPlex GX280 computers with the capacity to handle the city's present needs and any increases in the near future. The total cost for the computers and required software was $5,200-plus.
McDougal said the computers will be spread throughout the city to public works, the police department, and City Hall. He said they will allow the city to operate more efficiently for the benefit of its citizens and visitors.
McDougal hopes the city will continue to purchase additional technology each year, keeping things up to date.
