VALDOSTA -- The Lowndes County Board of Elections chairman discussed budgetary concerns during the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners' work session Monday.

John Adams said he was concerned that items cut out of the Board of Elections' budget needed to be added in, including money for poll workers training and money for a runoff election.

Commission Chairman Rod Casey said he would take the requests under consideration.

The commissioners went over the budget in early June, and citizens will have a chance to voice their opinion on how county dollars will be spent in two public hearings. The first will be today at 5:30 p.m. The second hearing will be June 29 at the same time. The budget will be adopted at the end of June.

At their work session, the commissioners also heard a presentation from Boy Scouts Adam Delong and Eric Ressinger on a clean-up project they worked on at the back of the Valwood School property. The teenagers, along with several other Boy Scouts, cleaned up the property along the back fence, and planted greenery, such as jasmine and honeysuckle, and made benches, to create a neat garden area.

Ressinger also told the commissioners he had received the honor of Eagle Scout.

"In today's world, it is hard to be a Boy Scout," Chairman Rod Casey said. "But it is something you will have with you your whole life. It's a great organization."

The commissioners went over Monday and will vote on the following:

A request to appoint Steve Gupton as the joint appointment to the Valdosta/Lowndes Zoning Board of Appeals.

A request to appoint Cindy Vickery and Julia Lee to the South Georgia Community Service Board.

A request to appoint John Akers and John Cookson to the Lowndes County Library Board.

A request to appoint Lonnie Denton to the Department of Family and Children Services Board.

A request for a beer, wine and package license for Suncoast KOA Campground off Jewell Futch Road, Lake Park

A variance request for 10 acres off St. Augustine Road for water and sewer purposes.
