VALDOSTA — Blue Line Ladies hosted a candlelight vigil Saturday evening for fallen policemen in 2016 outside of the historic Lowndes County Courthouse.

Members of the Valdosta Police Department, Valdosta State University Police Department, Lowndes County Sheriff's Department, Lake Park Police Department and others read off the list of fallen police officers.

Blue Line Ladies held a moment of silence, then lit candles for officers, family and friends in attendance.

Walter Byrd created and donated a banner listing the names of fallen officers for the event, including fallen members of the K-9 unit.

"They give so much," Byrd said. "It should be standing room only for something like this."

Blue Line Ladies is an organization of police officers' wives.

"We're mainly a support group but we're now trying to give back to the community, too," said Amanda O'Steen, Blue Line marketing director.

"You don't know what all they do. They never stop. If only I could get their husbands to work as hard as they do," Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk said with a laugh.
