The Georgia Department of Community Affairs, which administers the Section 8 housing choice voucher rental assistance program, will accept requests for applications for the Lowndes County waiting list beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, from the first 200 eligible families or for 30 days, whichever occurs first.

The DCA says 190 applications are for callers who live or work in Lowndes County.

The remaining 10 are available to callers who do not live or work in Lowndes County.

You may obtain an application by calling toll free 888-879-2549.

Hearing impaired applicants may apply for assistance by telephoning TDD 800-736-1155. (Leave a message; you will be contacted the next business day.)

Visually impaired applicants needing assistance to complete the application form should make the DCA office aware of this need at the time of the call. Applicants already on the waiting list need not reapply.

Current residents of public housing and persons on the waiting list for public housing must make a separate application for Section 8 assistance to be considered. Completing an application will not affect your status on the waiting list for other programs.

Any individual eligible to be served who has a visual or hearing impairment will be provided with the information necessary to understand and participate in DCA’s efforts to comply with the nondiscrimination based on handicap regulations by contacting Brandie Garner at DCA, 60 Executive Park South, N.E., Atlanta, Ga. 30329-2231 or by calling 1-800-359-4663 or TDD 1-800-736-1155.
