In a city with a rich sports tradition the Valdosta State Club Rugby team badly wants to make a name for itself in TitleTown — on Saturday morning in Aston, Penn., the Blazers' burning desire was on display. VSU cruised to a 3-0 record in pool play of the National Small College Rugby 7s National Tournament with a combined score of 85-17 to secure a spot in today's semifinals.
The Perfect Fit
Rising senior Anthony Folkerts has one more season to play football for the Valwood Valiants, but he now knows where he will be playing after he graduates next year too. Folkerts verbally committed last week to play for Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey.
VSU Softball staff named DII South Region Coaching Staff of the Year
Valdosta State softball Head Coach Thomas Macera and Graduate Assistant Coaches Marti Littlefield and Colette Rollins were collectively named the NCAA Division II South Region Coaching Staff of the Year in an announcement by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Wednesday afternoon.

Runs in the Family
Carl Parker is a name known around the city of Valdosta after a standout career as a receiver at Lowndes in the 80's followed by a brief stint in the NFL, and on Monday Carl's son followed in his dad's footsteps as a professional athlete, albeit a different sport. The former Clemson quarterback Kyle Parker was promoted to the majors by the Colorado Rockies.
