Stone Creek Golf Club joins with American Cancer Society

VALDOSTA —  The Stone Creek Golf Club is hosting the 40th Annual Lowndes/Echols ACS Golf Championship in support of the American Cancer Society from Ju ly10-12.

The three-day event formerly known as the Walter Hagan Tournament began in 1974 and has been one of the largest cancer covenant’s in the state since that time.

The event is broken into a 4-ball tournament with four man teams. Each player plays 18 holes on one of the three days of the tournament (picked by the player).

The field will be broken into three flights; the first flight will consist of players with a seven handicap or lower. Players in the second flight cannot have a handicap over 14, and the third flight is for the remaining players.

Teams will be assigned flights by the highest handicap of the foursome.

Players will tee off at 1:00 p.m. on each day of the tournament with a buffet before play Wednesday.

Former Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk has been in charge of coordinating the tournament for more than 30 years of the tournament’s 40 year history.

“This tournament is just for a great cause,” Paulk said. “You won’t find a family out there that hasn’t been touched by cancer.”

The Lowndes/Echols ACS tournament has helped raise between $30,000-$40,000 the last few years and over $500,000 in the history of the event.

Sponsorship opportunities help raise much of the money for the American Cancer Society.

The sponsorship levels vary by the amount of money donated. A Hole sponsor pays $200 for one tee box sign on a hole of choice; A Ping sponsor pays $500 for the tee box and to be mentioned in all ads and PSA announcements.

An Eagle sponsor has their team entry fee paid, their company featured on a banner at the tournament and all the rewards of previous levels for $1,000.

 Players can also donate $1,500 to reach the Taylor Made level and earn the same perks.

For $2,000 a company logo will be on all invitations and billboards, the company will be addressed as “premier Sponsor” in all ads and PSA announcements, the company banner will be displayed at the event, along with team entry fee.
