Wildcats prepare for revenge game

VALDOSTA — Last week the Valdosta Wildcats won their first game of the season.

This week the Wildcats are turning their heads towards the next challenge, The Brooks County Trojans.

Many Wildcat fans would love to forget last year’s matchup, where

the Trojans snuck out a 28-24 victory over Valdosta.

The victory marked the first defeat of the Wildcats in Trojans history.

This season the Wildcats are happy for the opportunity to avenge the lost.

Last week the Wildcats rushed for a combined 300 yards in a victory against Thomas County Central.

This week, The Wildcats will hope to continue their running attack against a Brooks County defense that lost three of the starting linebackers this summer in a car crash.

Running the spread option, Brooks County will be similar to the TCC team the Wildcats faced last week.

“They have eight returning starters on both sides of the ball. Offensively they start with Malkom Parrish. He will be one of the most explosive players we will see this year,” said Head Coach Rance Gillespie.

“We are dealing with a quarterback. We can throw and he can extend plays with his feet,” Gillespie added.

In order to win this game, the Wildcats will have to accomplish a couple of things on offense and defense.

Offensively, the offensive line must continue to block well for the running attack to work.

In addition to the offensive line, the Wildcat quarterback(s) must play better.

With big plays hard to come by when playing against an athletic team like this, the Wildcats must be patient with their drives.

“We have to extend drives and march down the field,” said Gillespie.

On defense, the Wildcats will continue to work on defending option runs, in addition to other plays to defend the spread offense that Brooks Co. runs.

Adam Choice of TCC was able to find a lot of success running the option a week ago.

The Wildcats will kickoff against Brooks County on Friday at 8 p.m., on Cleveland Field at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
