Malkom Parrish receives Army All-American Bowl honors

VALDOSTA —  Brooks County quarterback and cornerback Malkom Parrish has been a star since he put on a Trojans uniform his freshman year. As a senior, Parrish has led his team to yet another Region 1-AA title, the second in a row.

In addition to preparing for the playoffs in a few weeks, Parrish will now have the honor to prepare for an even bigger game. Parrish became the first player in Brooks County history to ever be selected to the annual Army All-American Bowl to be played Jan. 4, at the Alamodome in Texas.

“It’s a great honor to be representing the community in this game. I have never even thought about this game before. I’ve been putting in a lot of work and I’m glad to be representing the Trojans,” said Parrish on the honor.

Parrish will be representing the East in the game, and will be playing cornerback, as opposed to the dual-threat quarterback role he sees playing for the Trojans.

Parrish is committed to play cornerback at the University of Georgia in 2014.

The game itself has produced a number of NFL greats, including Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Desean Jackson, who all participated in the game when they were in high school.

The bowl selects the top 90 high school players in the country. Parrish will be joining another South Georgia native, Dyshon Sims, a lineman for Lowndes High, who will also be attending the University of Georgia with Parrish.

“I'm going to take advantage of every second being out there. To be playing with the top players across the nation is amazing,” said Parrish.

Parrish is highly praised by Trojan Head Coach Maurice Freeman.

“I’m extremely happy. I didn’t expect that. I expected maybe All-State, but this, I mean it’s remarkable. His hard work has paid off. He has a gift from God ...,” said Freeman.

The Trojans have one more game this season, this Friday at home against the Berrien Rebels.

The game will be the Trojans' senior night, when they will honor all the seniors in athletics and pay tribute to the BC 3, the three students who passed away in an accident before the season's start.
