VLPRA football all-stars travel west for GRPA state playoffs

VALDOSTA —  Two Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation All Star Football teams are only two wins away from being state champions. The VLPRA 7-8 year old All Stars and the 9-10 All Stars will both be playing in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Playoffs over the next two weekends.

The 7-8 year old All Stars play Dec. 7 at 10 a.m.  They’ll take on the GRPA District 6 Winner in the semi-final game at Friendly City Park in Tifton.

If the VLPRA All Stars win, they will go on to play in the State Championship the same day at 3 p.m.

VLPRA’s 9-10 year old All Stars will travel to Bartow County the following weekend for their playoff games. They play at 3 p.m. on Dec 14 at Hamilton Crossing Park in Cartersville. The 9-10 year olds have a bye in the first game and will face the winner of the Bartow County/Walton County game in the semi-finals.  A VLPRA win would send them straight to the State Championship game on Dec. 15th at 2 p.m.

“These teams are made up of talented young athletes with a lot of potential,” says VLPRA Youth Football Coordinator Michael Gurley.  “They’re eager to showcase their abilities and we are proud to have them represent VLPRA.”

This is the first time a VLPRA All Star Football team has traveled to the GRPA State Championships.
