Lowndes, Valdosta winners in 4-team track meet

VALDOSTA — Lowndes, Valdosta, Madison County, and Berrien County came together for a track meet on Wednesday and the Vikings' boys and Valdosta's girls came out victorious.

Lowndes' boys came in first place in the meet with a score of 114 thanks in part to sweeping the top three places in the 3200 meter run.

Jalen Long, came in first in the 3200 with a time of 10:23 and Chance Roe followed with a time of 10:40. Tyler Thurman was the third Viking, and runner in general to finish, coming in with a time of 10:53.

Valdosta finished second at the meet with 91 points as Savious Stoney and Nelson Herring finished first and second in the 100 meter dash with times of 11.10 and 11.13, respectively. Lowndes' Carlos Lee finished third in the event with a time of 11.26.

Madison County and Berrien County finished third and fourth, respectively, with 32 and 14 points.

Lowndes' girls just barely missed sweeping the day for the Vikings, but they were edged by Valdosta by just one point as the Wildcats finished in first with 100 points.

Danairea Melvin's 12.49 in the 100 meter dash paced Valdosta while Danielle King of Berrien and Tiana Avant of Lowndes finished in second and third with times of 12.70 and 12.93.

Lowndes' girls finished in second place in the meet with 99 points after sweeping the top three in the 800 meter thanks to Jackie Pinkerton, Ashley Powell, and Laney Tomberlin.

Pinkerton finished first in 2:33, Powell placed second with 2:39 and Tomberlin came in third with a 2:56.

Berrien's girls finished in third with 12 points and Madison County came in last with 10.
