Chris Pope named All-Super Region 2

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State senior linebacker Chris Pope was selected to the Daktronics Super Region 2 All-Region team in a vote of the Super Region 2 Sports Information Directors, as announced by the organization Friday.

Pope earned first-team honors after a record-setting season in which he led Valdsota State with 92 tackles. The Jackson, Ga. native tallied 45 solo tackles on the year to go along with 47 assisted stops and broke up one pass. Of his 92 tackles, six were for loss while he also registered on sack on the season.

The 2013 season marked the third time in his four-year career that Pope led the Blazers in tackles. He finished his career with 372 tackles, which established a new Gulf South Conference and Valdosta State record for total tackles, breaking the old record of 368 held by former Blazer and current Minnesota Viking Larry Dean.

Pope, who was second-team All-Super Region 2 last year, started all 45 games during his time with Valdosta State. By earning first-team honors this year, he moves on to the national ballot for All-America.
